Shamrock Civil were awarded the External Civil and Roadworks package for this stage of the Prince Charles Hospital upgrade. The initial works included the demolition of existing asphalt, concrete, and retaining wall. All demolition and excavation works were carried out in areas containing live services running to the existing hospital. The roadworks component included: · Detailed Excavation · Placement of asphalt for new road and carpark · Placement of concrete pavement and kerbs Other works included the installation of stormwater and the reconstruction of a 20m x 2m service trench. As part of the Prince Charles Hospital upgrade Stage 2B & C, Shamrock Civil were engaged to carry out a widening of First Avenue to convert it from a one-way to a two-way road. These works included the construction of new asphalt pavement and retaining wall through existing garden beds which contained many live services. As both the Prince Charles Hospital and Holy Spirit Hospital remained operational it was essential that the works did not affect the functionality of the hospital departments.

The Brisbane International Airport Expansion Project consisted of two separate construction sites, the Northern Concourse and the ITBX extension. All works carried out on each Construction Site were preformed in accordance with The Strict Regulations of Brisbane Airport Commission and Bovis Lend Lease. Due to the volume of material being moved from each site & the volume of Traffic expected, a detailed Traffic Management plan was put in place prior to the commencement of works.
The Construction of the Temporary Access Roads comprised the following:
• Demolition of existing road shoulders.
• Construction of roads on sand.
• Shaping of Embankments to form Swale Drains,
• Placement of Ironman Barriers to separate Airport Traffic from Construction Traffic
The Bulk Earthworks comprised the following:
• Demolition of existing Car Parks and Runway Aprons.
• Transplanting Existing Trees off site.
• Bulk Excavation (Approx 81,500m_) for the New Building Platforms.
• Install Construction Hardstands to Building Platforms.
Excavation of the Super Trench comprised the following:
• Installation of a Spear System to dewater the trench prior to commencement of excavation.
• The trench excavation was 7m deep and 30m wide at the top of batters.
Storm water works consisted of the following activities:
• Laying of Storm water lines for new extension at the Northern Concourse.
• Connection to Existing Storm water lines.
Alterations to Baggage Handling Roads consisted of the following activities: • Widen existing baggage road.
• Line marking alterations.
• Landscaping.
The works here had to be carried out on airside, which meant having security in place at all times. Because this road was still active the works had to be carried out as to not disturb the flow of Airport Traffic during the busy hours. This meant most activities had to happen out of hours. |

The Tribune on Grey Building is a $65 million commercial office building positioned on the corner of Grey and Tribune St, Southbank. The building includes 12,000 square metres of commercial space, with some ancillary uses, and is designed to accommodate the goals of the Southbank Corporation for Grey Street.
Shamrock Civil were contracted by Stockwell to carry out bulk earthworks, bored piers, retention and decontamination of the site. The bulk earthworks included clearing and stripping the site and excavation to basement level to a depth of approximately 6 metres beneath the existing road level. The perimeter of the site and adjoining properties were retained by a series of contiguous bored piers, whalers and rock anchors. Once the structure of the building was completed the anchors and whaler were de-stressed and removed from site. Throughout the course of the work, the site was selectively decontaminated under geotechnical and environmental supervision to enable the site be removed from the Contaminated Land Register.
The Tribune on Grey Street project comprised complicated and detailed works that took place on a small and heavily congested site. The project was delivered to the client successfully due to the preliminary planning and teamwork between Shamrock Civil and Stockwell. |

The project comprised of the demolition & removal of approx. 50,000m2 of existing runway concrete. The existing subgrade was then further excavated & prepared to accept specialised pavements which were paved with a paving machine to required specifications to accept the new concrete runway. The removal of the concrete pavements within the existing concrete runway had to be lifted out without damaging the adjacent existing concourse. A specialized lifting was used to ensure the adjacent slabs were not damaged. The works were carried out within an existing & operational runway with timely handover of works being a major requirement of the airforce base.

Baulderstone Hornibrook awarded Shamrock Civil the contract of the Civil works, construction of the Pump Station and Gross pollutant trap as part of the RAAF Amberley Stage 2 Re-development works.
The staging of this 10m deep excavation in a limited space was crucial in planning of this project. The top half of the excavation was benched down with the final 5meters utilising a power brace system to ensure safety of the workers.
Use of pre-cast manhole rings and casting of sections into the base at ground level was seen as the most efficient manner of construction. This 38T base was then lifted into position and built up to the finished surface level.
Finally the Sewer Pit was coated with Megapoxy and patched after final fitting of the Pump Station.
The Gross pollutant trap was constructed to divert water flowing down Stormwater channel throughout the RAAF base and remove contaminants.
We placed and fixed the pre-fabricated sections, formed and poured the weir wall then finished off the site by installing the rock protection.

RQYS engaged Shamrock Civil Engineering to provide them with a pump station for the upgrade of their sewer services in line with their upgrade and expansion of the existing club.
Due to the ground conditions on this occasion we utilized a caisson style construction method whereby we benched the excavation down about a meter placed the first section, excavated within the caisson then pushed the caisson down into the excavation. Once the next section was placed the same was done until we had the caisson at the correct height then poured the base then the roof. The sewer pit was coated and the penetrations patched after the plumbers fitted out the pit.
Whilst this job could have been potentially hazardous with respects to Groundwater, Acid Sulphate soils, co-ordination with other Trades, and working within 15m of the entrance to the club. Shamrock was able to bring this project in below budget, and in an expedient manner that exceeded the customer’s expectations.
The client was very happy with the efficiency and expedient manner in which we completed this project enabling them to utilize the area over the festive season. |
