Brisbane Airport Multi Level Carpark

The overall aim of the project is to construct a new multi level short term carpark to augment the existing long term multi level carpark.

Shamrock Civil Engineering was appointed by Laing O' Rourke as the preferred subcontractor to complete the $3,600,000 in ground services portion of the main contract.

The sub-contract comprised of the following major activities:

  • Installation of 1.85km of new stormwater pipe work with associated manholes and gullies;
  • 275m of deep gravity sewer pipe work with associated manholes;
  • 816m of sewer rising mains, with 5.5m deep discharge and reticulation manholes and four new connections to existing services;
  • 605m of water mains with three new connections to existing services; and
  • 1.1km of recycled water, fire and irrigation mains.

Challenges associated with the project include:

  • Coordination of service tie-ins and commissionings with Laing O'Rourke and BAC Operations;
  • Working amongst multiple existing services, which required temporary support and diversion;
  • Excavation in sand, requiring sheet piling, shoring; and

Working within a high water table and tidal flow through the stormwater system, requiring spear pointing and dewatering from sumps.
