Matisse Towers

CLIENT:                  FKP

VALUE:                   $1,700,000

DURATION:           August 2007 - August 2008

FKP engaged Shamrock Civil Engineering to do the bulk excavation and facilitate the Top Down construction of 3 basement levels for Matisse Towers in Mary St, Brisbane.

Combining the contaminated and constricted site with the Top Down construction and high level of co-ordination this job certainly possessed its fair share of potential issues.

The construction process involved preparing each level to have the slab poured.  Once the slab was poured and cured SCE commenced the excavation and then under-mining of each level until the surface below was prepared for the concurrent slab.  During this process SCE would remove the bulk of the material, scabble the walls, columns and roof where necessary, and demolish the lift pit over pour.  SCE would then prepare any rebates or recesses and prepare the slab and then allow the concreters to pour the next slab.

As well as the restricted space and the potential safety issues apparent with a job like this, SCE also utilized specialized machinery to extract material up to 10m through the centre of the site in order to load trucks on the top slab and remove the material.
