The project comprised of the demolition and removal of approx. 50,000m2 of existing runway concrete. The existing subgrade was then further excavated and prepared to accept specialized pavements which were paved with a paving machine to required specifications to accept the new concrete runways.
The removal of the concrete pavements within the existing concrete runway had to be lifted out without damaging the adjacent existing concourse. A specialized lifting was used to ensure the adjacent slabs were not damaged.
The works were carried out within an existing and operational runway with timely handover of works being a major requirement of the air force base.
