The Salisbury to Kuraby Rail Upgrade was delivered by the S2K Alliance, a partnership between QR Limited and Abigroup Contractors. The works consist of 9.5km of new track and the upgrade of 7 stations.
Shamrock Civil were awarded the Carparks, Roadworks and Stormwater Drainage contract for Altandi, Coopers Plains, Fruitgrove, Kuraby and Runcorn Station.
The contract comprised of the following major activities:
- Demolition & removal of existing carparks, roads, stormwater and services;
- 4,700m3 of bulk excavation;
- 4,500m3 of bulk fill;
- 16,500m3 of detailed excavation for roadworks;
- Placement of over 26,000m2 of new pavement, consisting of 16,000m3 of roadbase and over 3000 tonne of asphalt;
- Construction of 8,200m2 of coloured concrete paving, feature paving, concrete footpath, concrete driveway and kerb ramps;
- Placement of 5,300m of kerb and channel;
- Construction of 2 asphalt roundabouts and numerous concrete traffic islands;
- Laying of 1,300m of reinforced concrete stormwater pipes and 75 stormwater structures including Gross Pollutant Traps, manholes, field inlets & gully pits;
- Placement of over 3,500m of underground communication & electrical conduits & 170 associated pits;
- Construction of over 100 street light pole footings;
- Road signage, linemarking, speed bumps, traffic bollards & fencing; and
- Topsoiling and soft landscaping.
A large proportion of the road works were carried out on roads which carry high traffic volumes. Works to the Beenleigh Road and Henley Street required a large amount of traffic management and staging in order to construct new pavements, concrete island, a roundabout and traffic signal works without disrupting the flow of traffic.
As all stations remained operational for the duration of the project the works were programmed to ensure no disruption was caused to the public or railway.
Shamrock Civil completed the project on time and to the satisfaction of the S2K Alliance.
