The objective of the correctional centre projects was to provide the Brisbane Reception Centre (BRC) and Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre (AGCC) with increased cell accommodation and upgrades to the supporting services and infrastructure. While the BRC was non-operational during construction, AGCC was fully operational and required Shamrock Civil to operate within the strict site rules and protocols as set out by BLL and GEO (Arthur Gorrie Centre Management).
Works at the Arthur Gorrie Correctional Centre included:
- Clearing and demolition of redundant services and pavements;
- Bulk excavation and reinstatement of uncontrolled fill to construct building pads for new cell blocks and administrative blocks;
- Retaining walls and concrete walkways;
- Stormwater and Sewer Drainage including tunnel boring under the external security fence, construction of a 100kL plastilined precast sewer storage facility and connection into existing sewer pump station; and
- Roadworks for new asphalt surfaced visitor carpark and remedial works to the existing visitor carpark and security surveillance ring road.
Works at the Brisbane Reception Centre included:
- Bulk Earthworks to construct building pads for new cell blocks, administration and visitor processing buildings;
- Construction of 224 x 600mm diameter reinforced concrete bored piers for building foundations;
- Stormwater Drainage;
- Roadworks for new asphalt surfaced visitor carpark; and
- Approximately 70,000m2 of turfed landscaping.
The works were completed and handed over on time without disruption to the operation of the correctional centre facilities.
