Prince Charles Hospital

CLIENT:                  Baulderstone Hornibrook

VALUE:                   $530,000

DURATION:            June 2006 - January 2007

In February 2007 Queensland Health opened a new Department of Emergency Medicine at the Prince Charles Hospital Brisbane.  Shamrock Civil were awarded the External Civil and Roadworks package for this stage of the Prince Charles Hospital upgrade.

The initial works included the demolition of existing asphalt, concrete, and retaining wall.  All demolition and excavation works were carried out in areas containing live services running to the existing hospital.

The Roadworks component included:

  • Detailed Excavation;
  • Placement of asphalt for new road and carpark; and
  • Placement of concrete pavement and kerbs.

Other works included the installation of stormwater and the reconstuction of a 20m x 2m service trench.

As part of the Prince Charles Hospital upgrade Stage 2B & C, Shamrock Civil were engaged to carry out a widening of First Avenue to convert it from a one-way to a two-way road.  These works included the construction of new asphalt pavement and retaining wall through existing garden beds which contained many live services.

As both the Prince Charles Hospital and Holy Spirit Hospital remained operational it was essential that the work did not affect the functionality of the hospital departments.
