Queensland Museum Refurbishment

CLIENT:                  Abigroup

VALUE:                   $200,000

DURATION:            October 2005 - July 2006

This heritage listed building was designed and built as an exhibition hall in 1891 and then converted to a museum and subsequently a concert hall.  It is located on a 1.5 hectare site at the intersection of Bowen Bridge Road and Gregory Terrace.

Shamrock Civil were awarded the civil and roadworks package component for the refurbishment of the old Queensland Museum.  The initial works included the demolition of existing asphalt, concrete and redundant services.  As this is a heritage listed building, it was vital that all demolition works were carried out with the utmost care to ensure no damage was caused to the building structure.

As part of our works it was necessary to install 150m of stormwater line and associated pits.  As this is an existing building, the stormwater works were completed under difficult conditions including boring under existing services and excavation in rock.

Other works included:

  • Replacement of Roadway;
  • Replacement of Kerb and Channel; and
  • Concrete parking bays.

The concert hall remained operational during the work, so it was vital that works were programmed and executed to cause minimal disruptions.
