The Queensland Children’s Hospital being built on land adjacent to the Mater Children’s Hospital and the Mater Private Hospital at South Brisbane.

Shamrock Civil Engineering has been appointed by Abigroup for the $3.29 Million QCH civil works contract.  The project involved demolition, site clearing, earthworks, roadworks, stormwater, sewer and water reticulation systems, electrical and telecommunications conduits.

The contract also comprised of the following major activities:

  • Demolition, site clearing, earthworks including 5m deep cut for Hancock Street including anchoring and shortcreting;
  • 3,500m2 of new pavement to Graham and Hancock Streets and services;
  • Breaking into existing carpark and underpinning of the existing retaining walls to join with the new services tunnel; and
  • Staged excavation and construction under heavy traffic of the services tunnel 3,000×2, 400 from precast culverts in 6m deep trench across Graham Street.

All works were performed in a confined construction area, in a major operational hospital area, and required strict adherence to project safety and environmental management plans.
