The Spring Gully development coal seam gas project is located approximately 80km north of Roma in central Queensland. It is the fourth stage of the development of the Spring Gully gas field which included the construction of a new Reverse Osmosis (RO) Plant and Wetlands.
Shamrock Civil were appointed by Origin Energy for the construction of the earthworks and civil works associated the new Spring Gully wetlands.
These works comprised of:
- Stripping of topsoil to to stockpile.
- Cut to fill detailed earthworks for the construction of the wetland.
- HDPE lining of the wetland.
- Supply and placement of the single size aggregate.
- Supply and installation of discharge sump and other miscellaneous components.
Gas recovery produces large volumes of high salinity water. As part of the water management process Origin Energy constructed a RO Plant. Shamrock Civil were the contractors appointed to carry out the earthworks and roadworks associated with the RO Plant. The RO Plant was located within an operational site controlled by the Origin Energy Operations group and is bordered by live gas and water pipelines and an operational evaporation pond.
These works comprised of:
- Stripping of 15,000m2 of topsoil to stockpile.
- Removal of wet, uncontrolled fill material from site to shallow thickness layers for drying out.
- Subgrade preparation, approximately 15,000m2.
- Placement of 4,000m3 of reconditioned fill material.
- Importation of 13,000m3 of fill from borrow pit.
- Placement of reinforced concrete pipes, headwalls and cattle grids
All works were completed on time and to a high quality to meet the requirements of Origin Energy.
