Shamrock Civil were contracted by Adco to widen Gympie Road and expand existing turning lanes within the middle of Gympie Road.
The project was constructed under Main Roads jurisdiction. Due to the high traffic volumes on Gympie Road; the traffic management, safety and planning of the works were crucial. To enable the works to be performed without disruption to the traffic, lane widths were reduced via temporary line marking to provide room for the traffic barriers and working space to perform the works.
Once Stage 1 (Western Road Widening) was complete, traffic was re-diverted to allow Stage 2 to be performed (Extension of turning lane into traffic island).
The pavement design consisted of deep lift asphalt overlaid with an asphalt wearing course.
All works were completed on time and to Main Roads satisfaction, with no incidents or delays to the busy traffic on Gympie Road.
