Grand Plaza is a large sub-regional shopping centre located on Grand Plaza Drive, Browns Plains.  Grand Plaza is host to some of Queensland's largest retailers such as Big W, Target, Kmart, Best & Less, Woolworths, Coles, Birch Carroll & Coyle and Aldi.  The Shopping Centre underwent a major expansion mid 2005 which was completed and successfully opened in September 2006.

The works carried out by Shamrock Civil Engineering at Grand Plaza were managed as two separate contracts; Bulk Earthworks and Roadworks.

The Bulk Earthworks Sub-contract comprised the following major activities:

  • Demolition of an existing car park (approx 11,500m2);
  • Bulk Excavation (approx. 12,000m3) for the new building pad;
  • Retention works consisting of 500m2 of shotcrete and 300 rock anchors; and
  • Bored concrete piers to enable the new building to span over a major storm-water culvert.

The Roadworks Sub-contract comprised the following major activities:

  • New turning lane on Grand Plaza Drive to provide access into the new suspended carpark;
  • New roundabout on Grand Plaza Drive;
  • Reconfiguration of existing Eastern Car Park and entry road; and
  • Bulk Earthworks and reconfiguration of existing Western Car Park to suit new building.

The works were carried out in a delicate and professional manner to ensure that the Shopping Centre operated successfully and uninterrupted throughout the full duration of the project.
