CLIENT: Leda Design & Construction
VALUE: $1,500,000
DURATION: February 2007 - July 2007
Riverlinks Shopping Centre is a new development located in the northern area of Ipswich CBD. The shopping centre which opened it's doors on April 5th 2007 is host to some of Queensland's largest retailers such as K-mart, Target, Coles and Woolworths as well as over 100 speciality stores.
As part of the development, Shamrock Civil was awarded the external roads contract which involved works for both Ipswich City Council and Main Roads. The work comprised of the demolition and reconstruction of The Terrace and Downs Street and the upgrading of the intersection of Lowry Street and Downs Street to meet the requirements of the new shopping centre. The contract also included the construction of 2 main entrances to the shopping centre.
The External Roads Contract comprised of the following major activities:
- Demolition of existing asphalt (approx. 3,500m2);
- Demolition of existing concrete (approx. 1,000m2);
- Excavation for new pavement;
- Placement of storm water pipes and structures;
- Construction of new asphalt pavement (approx. 4,100m2); and
- Construction of new concrete footpath (approx. 1,200m2).
As many local businesses are located on The Terrace and Downs Street, it was essential to maintain one way traffic at all times to allow the businesses to operate successfully and uninterrupted throughout the duration of the works.
